Resounding Success of the 3rd Summit on Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen

In February of this year, UNEF held the 3rd Summit on Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen, an event that has become a benchmark in the sector, gathering more than 500 professionals and representatives from national and regional institutions in Madrid. The summit provided a space for public and private sectors to jointly discuss the future of one of Spain's key drivers in the energy transition.

The event was inaugurated by Joan Groizard, Secretary of State for Energy, who emphasized that Spain is "a leader in Europe and the world in renewables and in attracting new demand looking for clean and appealing technologies. We are now going beyond that, and it is time to decarbonize all sectors. We must ensure that each of our decisions makes sense individually and that, together, they are optimal for the system."

Rafael Benjumea, President of UNEF, highlighted the need to "make energy storage a priority with the necessary economic incentives for its development, eliminate administrative and knowledge barriers, and foster hydrogen demand by developing a local European strategy similar to what has been done with solar energy."

The 3rd Summit on Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen featured lectures and panel discussions with over 50 national and international experts, as well as prominent figures in the sector, such as Carlos Redondo, Deputy Director-General of Electricity at the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Fátima García Señán, Deputy Director-General of Storage and Flexibility at MITECO; Jesús Ferrero, Deputy Director-General of Renewable Energies at MITECO; Rocío Prieto, Director of Energy at the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC); Manuel Larrasa, Secretary General of Energy at the Regional Government of Andalusia; Cristina Aparicio, Director-General of Energy Transition and Circular Economy in the Community of Madrid; Tomás Domínguez, Director of Programming for the Spanish Electricity Grid Operator; and Pedro Basagoiti, Director of Technology, Innovation, and New Developments at OMIE, as well as executives and experts from the leading companies in Spain's energy sector.
